Mountain Lion Lunges At Mechanic In LA

Hank Bakerfelt is a mechanic so he's not used to dealing with nature, but Friday morning it knocked him to the ground.Bakerfelt told KCTV, "I hear the stories but you never think it's going to happen to you."

He says a mountain lion lunged at him as he was opening up his auto shop. Fortunately the big cat was also pretty scared and ran off.

He told KABC he feels very lucky.

"She wasn't aggressive at all. No teeth, no nothing. She wasn't very aggressive at all."

Once Bakerfelt composed himself, he says he called for help.

The lion was trapped on the lot by a high fence and wildlife officials came and tranquilized the animal and removed it. Officials say they plan to release her in a remote area.

It's not uncommon for mountain lions to run into Los Angeles residents.

In 2013, resident living in the foothills reported several incidents of mountain lions prowling their neighborhoods.

Fish and Wildlife says just last week in Lancaster, they had to corner another mountain lion that wandered into a neighborhood.
